Okay, so maybe I still don’t really LOVE Delta. I scoffed at SkyMiles for a long time; at just 1.1 cents per point, the reasonable redemption value for Delta miles is the lowest of all the major domestic carriers.

But. Delta IS one of the major domestic carriers, and sometimes, the Delta flight is the one that’s going to get you where you want to go, when you want to go there. (You can often get great value booking Delta flights through Air France or Virgin Atlantic, but sometimes the flight you need isn’t available to partners.) And, Delta cardholders get a 15% discount on award flights, making those high point prices a little more palatable. So, I bit the bullet earlier this year and opened a Delta Business Gold card.

The offer that finally persuaded me is back, and here’s why I think it’s a good offer:

• It’s a business card, so it won’t report to your personal credit or add to your 5/24 count.
• If you already have other American Express cards, you probably won’t even get a hard pull on your credit.
• Delta miles are handy to have, but it’s no fun to transfer them from American Express, because you have to pay a small excise fee, and there are so many other, more valuable uses for Amex points.
• The annual fee is waived for the first year.
• The card comes with a $150 Delta Stays credit, which I have already used for a one-off hotel night. The bank is literally paying you to open this card!
• The sign up bonus is 90,000 SkyMiles–not too shabby!

Will I keep this card long term? No. Am I finding a ton of first year value in it? Yes!
